With the OHSAS18001 accreditation Airedale has been able to demonstrate the effectiveness of systems in place for managing Occupational Health and Safety. This approval of how effective our practices are has provided us with the drive to gain accreditation to not one but two more standards that are of significant importance in today’s business world.
ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard for effective Environmental Management - it's designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact.
ISO 9001 is by far the world’s most established quality framework, currently being used by almost 1 million organisations in 161 countries, and sets the standard not only for quality management systems, but management systems in general. It helps organisations to succeed through improved customer satisfaction, staff motivation and continual improvement.

Just last year Airedale was recognised by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) with a Bronze Award.

Huddersfield University commissioned Airedale for a £2.7m M&E services installation, as Arts and Music departments are combined into a single state-of-the-art facility. The project has two key objectives: noise and comfortable environment. Mechanical services involved extensive ventilation, with room and cross-talk attenuation.

A new housing development in Stevenage is using collective heating to increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption. The 172 apartments at Woolners Way have a central ‘condensing boiler’ supplying heat to each unit through a system designed and installed by Airedale.
The centralised condensing boiler saves energy by ‘recovering’ heat usually discarded into the atmosphere and claims a thermal efficiency of up to 98%, compared with 70-80% for conventional systems. By installing a single boiler for many homes, it operates closer to maximum efficiency for longer, due to the ‘evened out’ demands from 172 homes, compared to an inefficient on-off cycle followed by a boiler serving just one home.

Airedale Mechanical and Electrical has been appointed to design and install services at the new Gateway Plaza complex, Barnsley. The 16-storey mixed-use development includes an impressive central plaza, with decorative lighting and fountains. Airedale will work with developer, Landmark Developments, main contractor, Browns Construction Group and services consultant, Pearce Buckle to complete £5.1m of services over a 52-week program. Works include a full building managements system, security and access control, vertical distribution of power and water, with Cat 6 telephone and data to 95,000 sq ft of office space, plus dry risers and fire alarms linked to ventilation for automatic smoke venting.
The project has achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’, through several energy saving measures. Water is heated by up to 16 degrees in solar water heating panels before topping up to full temperature, reducing energy consumption, as does automatic lighting control in the communal and office spaces.

A team of gutsy volunteers from Airedale have scaled the tallest mountain in North Africa to raise money for the children’s charity, Barnardo’s. The four women and eight men embarked on a four-day mission up Jebel Toukbal in Morrocco’s Atlas mountains.
Day 1: Fly to Marrakech, & overnight in ‘basic’ accommodation
Day 2: two hour drive to the road’s end at 5,000ft then a six-hour hike to a remote base-camp mountain hut at 11,000ft
Day 3: up before dawn to reach the 13,900ft summit by 10.30am
Day 4: back to civiisation to collect over £20,000 in sponsorship

The new Barnsley Digital Media Centre is reaping the environmental benefits of a low energy ‘natural’ ventilation system, part of a £1.25m services installation by Airedale Mechanical & Electrical. Air movement through the purpose-built centre for new businesses is takes advantage of warm air’s natural tendency to rise, so cutting out energy consumed by electric fans. Air enters at the base of the Centre’s main atrium and through each of the building’s six storeys, rising to automated roof louvers, which regulate the airflow and act as automatic smoke vents when the fire alarm is triggered.
The natural ventilation system was part of a comprehensive package installed by Airedale, including electrical and data connections, plus a full CCTV and access system, all plumbing, heating and sanitary works in the complex, including under floor heating and full kitchen facilities on each level. A co-ordinated team of Airedale technicians completed the installation within a challenging six-month schedule.

Airedale has moved into a new 12,000 sq ft office building near Leeds. The site provides improved communications, with easy access to the major transport routes and even easier access further afield, being across the road from Leeds Bradford Airport.
New and improved offices don’t just mean a better place to work for Airedale, it also offers a better way of working. Extra space has allowed us to add an extra dimension to our services, with a new, dedicated computer aided design department. The new CAD facility enables us to offer clients and M&E consultants alike radically enhance design and planning power.

Richmond School is set to be able to do more than just teach its students about the theories of renewable energy and climate change, it will be able to show them, thanks to a range of sustainable energy measures being installed by Airedale Mechanical & Electrical. The package of both energy saving measures and greener on-site power generating sources are part of a £6m program, funded by the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative. The works on the listed building will see the school substantially reduce its ‘carbon footprint’ through a range of sustainable energy measures.
Energy will be generated on-site through the installation of solar panels helping the school to reduce its dependency on fossil-fuel derived power from the national grid. As well as producing power on-site, energy consumed in heating and cooling will be cut through a combination of
solar water heating and ground source heat pumps.
