
The project comprised a single storey construction with dedicated food hall, internal retail market area, retail shop areas, external retail space and ancillary areas. The project encompassed the complete Mechanical and Electrical services installations to front of house and back of house areas (public toilets, staff rooms management offices etc). The type of contract was "design build".
The market halls and stores are heated via high level gas fired unit heaters with de-stratification fans installed to provide sufficient air movement in winter to maintain a good heat distribution. Public toilets and offices are provided with electric low surface temperature vandal resistant radiators. The market halls are provided with high level natural ventilation via automatic openable louvres controlled in zones via temperature sensors. Mechanical extract is provided to the tractor store and a variable volume extract system to the public toilets.
Hot and cold water services are provided to market stalls where required with hot water generated by an electric water storage heater, cold water was mains fed.
Lighting and emergency lighting is provided to the internal market hall, external covered market hall, ancillary areas and the external service area. Emergency lighting is provided via 3 hour battery invertor packs within normal luminaries and maintained exit signs together with twin spot luminaries within the main market hall internal and external areas. Small power is provided to the management offices, cleaners and ancillary equipment in the market hall and for mechanical services supplies. Small power within the market hall is provided by a network of in screed floor boxes installed at the rate of 1 No 3 compartment boxes per market stall. The works also included the design, installation testing and commissioning of an intruder alarm system, fire alarm system (L2) and a lightning protection system.
