AME carried out full Mechanical & Electrical and specialist services design and build on this "University of Leeds Gold Standard" facility on behalf of BAM Construction at the university of Leeds, the main function of the building is to provide educational, research and administrative facilities for this specialist faculty, which include state of the art research laboratories.
The mechanical services provided including heating cooling ventilation including fume extract cabinets, specialist close temperature control rooms, various specialist processed chilled water systems for hi tech experimental equipment. All the primary heating and cooling systems where supplied from the universities external central energy centre, AME installed new plant rooms for chilled water and heating plate heat exchange units, there was a requirement for staged handover of the laboratory area's of the SEE therefore to achieve early completion of the necessary plant rooms AME opted for the of site production of the 2 plant rooms.
Also AME designed and installed the specialist energy metering systems that is to be rolled out across the entire University campus, this consisted of specialist software that enables any authorised user to access detailed "real time" and "historical" energy data from a remote web enabled access, this was of particular importance to the end users as a way of driving down energy usage and therefore carbon emissions.
The electrical systems consisted of lighting small power, mains and sub main distribution throughout existing risers, this was achieved by the installation of new rising main bus bar systems, in addition to this AME installed data installations, fire alarm, access control, dda systems such as disabled refuge and hearing induction systems.
AME also designed and installed complete AV (audio visual systems) throughout the multi purpose rooms including a self control information system posted on plasma screens located throughout the SEE.
Of particular interest to the end user where the use of renewable systems, these include heat recovery on all the AHU plant, Photo Voltaic panels on the roof, there was also rainwater recycling on the new build, and the use of water less urinals throughout the project, all of the sources of renewables are metered and displayed on the energy metering system.
